The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is set between the end of The Hobbit and the start of Fellowship of the Rings.Gollum has lost his "precious," the One Ring, and his attempts to eke out survival without its gifts lead to him promptly getting captured by the Nazgul, who are trying to track down the ring. Unfortunately, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is true to its source material in that it's sad, miserable, depressing and can't stop sabotaging itself. It would take a whole lot of work to make that mess of a character fun to play. The first thing that comes to mind as a playable character is not the desiccated, barely functioning wreck that is Gollum. Any single one of them could be the basis for a fun gameplay experience, offering intriguing and interesting ideas. Indeed, it is a story that shows that even the simplest of people can become heroes when the need arises, like the various hobbits. The Lord of the Rings has a lot of cool characters: the noble Aragorn, the enigmatic Gandalf, and the steadfast Gimli.
